CAMPERVAN HIRE IN NORTHERN IRELAND
Northern Ireland, from the stunning Antrim Coast Road to The Fermanagh Lakes, the benefit of hiring a campervan in Belfast is that you can take in all the views at your own pace and in the comfort of your home on wheels!
We have managed to narrow it down to what we think are the top 5 most beautiful spots in Northern Ireland that you will not want to miss on your holiday. And not to worry, our fully comprehensive insurance covers you for Southern Ireland aswell.
1. Fermanagh Lakelands
South west of Northern Ireland, Upper and Lower Lough Erne cover a third of county Fermanagh. Stretched out across the county there are plenty of beautiful spots along the Lough offering a variety of activities including water sports at Share Village, nature trails around Castle Archdale, country walks through the West Wing at Crom Castle, golfing at Lough Erne Resort (Nick Faldo course) and boat cruises to Devenish Island.
2. Giant’s Causeway
One of Northern Ireland’s national treasures (and biggest myths), the Giants Causeway is situated on the Co Antrim coast. It is made up of 40,000 basalt columns as the result of a volcanic eruption 60 million years ago – although legend has it that the giant Finn MacCool built the causeway bare handed! A 2 mile round walk will let you explore from the cliff path to the shepherds steps taking in all the scenery and wildlife. It’s no surprise that the Giants Causeway was named best UK heritage attraction at the 2015 British Travel Awards!
3. Mourne mountains
An area of outstanding beauty based in County Down the Mourne Mountains peak at 850 metres high (Slieve Donard) and are the highest mountains in Northern Ireland. Along the way you will be guided by the Mourne wall, a 22 mile long granite stone wall which passes through 15 of the Mournes summits including Silent Valley reservoir and Ben Crom dam. The Mourne Mountains are tough to climb but the breath taking views at the top are more than worth it – on a clear day you can see as far as the Isle of Man and Snowdonia!
4. Ring of Gullion
Situated in Co Armagh the Ring of Gullion is a must see spot while in Northern Ireland. It offers plenty to do for the family including walking trails, cycling routes, the giant’s lair, mountain walks and a 10km scenic drive through the slopes of Slieve Gullion. It reaches 576m above the neighbouring countryside and is Armagh’s tallest point. From Slieve Gullion there are views of Co Wicklow in Ireland and the Mourne Mountains.
5. Mussenden Temple
Mussenden Temple sits on a 120ft cliff in Co. Londonderry. It is a historic landmark overlooking Castlerock, Portstewart and Co Donegal. Originally built as a library in 1785, the temple is one of the most photographed landscapes in Northern Ireland. While at the temple you can make the most of your time and visit the ruins of Hezlett House, take a walk through the demesne and a stroll along Downhill Beach.Wherever your campervan might take you in Northern Ireland, this list has landmarks dotted around the country so you will get to take in the other beautiful spots along the way that didn’t quite make the list.
